Hi, I’m Maria!
My husband, Jeremiah, and I are raising four incredible kids, three biological sons and our daughter through adoption (at times more through foster care). I also have the sacred privilege of working as a registered nurse with youth in therapeutic residential foster care.
We live in Michigan, where Jeremiah serves as the lead pastor of our church campus, surrounded by a community passionate about caring for the one, especially those most vulnerable.
With a degree in communications and psychology, my writing is shaped by both education and lived experience as a nurse, mom, and foster parent. But more than anything, it’s shaped by my faith in God.
I’ll never forget the first time Child Protective Services arrived at our door and I looked into the most precious big brown eyes. That moment changed me. The days and years that followed shaped how I see the world and how I want to show up in it.
Those experiences inspired me to write One Day at a Time.
I’m so grateful you’re here.
Our Family in Florida
Life with kids from preschool to college keeps our home full and rarely quiet. My favorite place to visit is the sunny beaches of Southwest Florida, “my home away from home.”
Faith and family are where my heart anchor. I’m so glad you’re here, and I hope love this book and will join me in getting One Day at a Time into the hands and hearts of children, especially those impacted by foster care.
Adoption Day May 2022
Check out Sparrow & Co. Cares, our nonprofit initiative dedicated to raising awareness and restoring hope – one child at a time.
Our dream is for partnership in this mission, to donate One Day at a Time books and Comfort Care Bags to children, starting right here in Michigan (currently around 11,000 kids in foster care).

I would love to share One Day at a Time with your community to raise awareness about foster care, share about our role in caring for the vulnerable, and highlight the importance of understanding emotions and healthy coping skills…one day at a time.
